VIATEC Honours ParetoLogic for Community Involvement

Charity work and donations to causes near and far have netted the Victoria software company a prestigious award.

April 13, 2017 – ParetoLogic is being honoured for its continuing drive to give back and help the global community.

The Victoria, B.C. software company will receive the Community Involvement Award at the 16th Annual Victoria Innovation, Advanced Technology and Entrepreneurship Council Technology Awards on June 2. The past VIATEC award winner is being recognized for its support of 11 separate causes and initiatives that range from Victoria’s Our Place Society to the Edward and Maggie Pires Center in India this past year.

“It is a great honour to be recognized by the local technology community and our greatest satisfaction comes from being able to help people in our region and around the world,” ParetoLogic CEO Barry Dodd said. “Over the years, our founders, executives, and staff have been committed to helping children and families, assisting in ways that empower people and create real change.”

VIATEC will host its annual awards gala on June 2 at the Victoria Conference Centre. ParetoLogic was one of a handful of honourees announced prior to the prestigious event that annually celebrates the achievements of Greater Victoria’s technology sector.

“ParetoLogic has been a strong contributor to our community for years thanks to the passion behind the Pereira family and their team members,” Dan Gunn, CEO of VIATEC, said in a VIATeC press release, in reference to the Pereira and Wharton families who founded the company.

An important aspect of ParetoLogic’s community and charity efforts is how it is very diverse in what it supports and how it does so. ParetoLogic founders, executives, and staff can be found serving breakfasts at times during the year at the Our Place Society, providing meals for Victoria’s homeless and the working poor. Bake sales raise money for the BC SPCA and other causes. The company donated $25,000 to the Edward and Maggie Pires Center to build a rehabilitation center for sexually exploited women in honour of relatives of ParetoLogic’s founders.

The charities and causes supported by ParetoLogic in the past year include:

  • Canadian Blood Service
  • Our Place Society
  • BC Children’s Hospital
  • Canadian Red Cross
  • World Vision
  • CFAX Santa’s Anonymous
  • Dragonfly Pond Family Society
  • Mustard Seed Food Bank
  • Journey – Build Houses in Mexico
  • Edward and Maggie Pires Center

Since the founding of ParetoLogic, the company and staff have supported many causes. Staff members shaved their heads to raise funds for Cops for Cancer – Tour de Rock for pediatric cancer research and funding of support programs.  Others got muddy and sweaty to support the work of Power to Be Adventure Therapy. More than two dozen charities have been supported.

“It’s about time we recognize them for going way above and beyond,” Gunn said in a VIATeC press release.
