Infected with Vomba ?
The Vomba application is an adware.
This adware agent has functionalities that include the display of advertisements that may come in the form of pop-ups or pop-unders. Based on reports, this program is also capable of tracking the browsing activities of the user.
This malware allegedly collects information on the user's Web browsing behavior and preferences. The bits of gathered information are then sent to the vendors for analysis. This analysis is done by vendors so that they could better tailor their product and for them to determine who to target for advertising.
Adware programs like the Vomba application arrive in the user's computer system along with several useless applications that have been created by the Vomba Content Network. The applications essentially have features such as desktops, smileys, screensavers, and the like as fronts for advertising.
When unsuspecting users download low-cost or free applications, they are in a way agreeing to host advertising in their computers. However, it is not specified whether the advertising borders on obnoxiousness or intrusiveness.
This program functions by making an installation of a primitive Browser Helper Object or BHO on the user's Internet browser. The Browser Helper Object serves as a device with the capability of tracking the habits of users when it comes to Internet browsing. Such habits include banking and shopping. All these pieces of information are sent to unspecified servers that return targeted pop-ups.
This adware was developed by the Vomba Content Network. This software developer is affiliated with the Media Traffic. Consequently, Media Traffic is related directly to the prevalent adware agency IST or Integrated Search Technologies. The said agency has been responsible for the intrusive Slotch Toolbar, ISTBar, and YourSiteBar. All three of these have the capability of monitoring and reporting browsing habits and facilitating pop-ups.
The following are supposedly some of the file traces of the Vomba application:
* VombaShots Website.lnk;
* VombaShots Manager;
* and VombaShots.exe.
The Vomba application generates a huge population of screensavers and other useless programs bundled with their advertising products.
