ParetoLogic brings home the hardware
With innovation, hard work, strong leadership and a focus on customer satisfaction, ParetoLogic continues to prosper.
Its success and exponential growth were recently celebrated as the Victoria, B.C. software company received a pair of major awards. Co-founder, President and CEO Elton Pereira was named the Pacific Regional Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in the Information Technology category. As well, ParetoLogic was ranked 17th on the Deloitte Technology Fast 50, which lists the fastest growing Canadian technology companies.
Entrepreneur of the Year
Since its founding in 2004, ParetoLogic has established itself as a leader in PC security, optimization and utility solutions for home users. Throughout the company's growth, Pereira has led it with a focus on innovation, serving its customers and partners and a strong corporate culture.
At an Ernst & Young Gala in Vancouver, Pereira was presented with his award. Also at the event, Chad Wasilenkoff, Fortress Paper CEO, was named the region's overall Entrepreneur of the Year. He will represent the Pacific region at the nationals awards in Toronto in November.
"It was a tremendous honour to be a category winner and I was thrilled to be among such amazing entrepreneurs," Pereira said. "I would like to share the award with my brothers and co-founders – Adrian, Don and Myron – for building a strong company from the ground up."
"My father inspired us by opening our eyes to the world of the Internet and how to do business online. I also thank all the ParetoLogic management team and staff for their passion, dedication and loyalty."
This is the 17th year Ernst & Young has honoured the nation's top entrepreneurs. In weighing the award's nominees, the judges look at such aspects as the company's culture, revenue, growth, impact on the industry and innovation. As well, they also focus on the individual entrepreneur's leadership, integrity, relationship with staff, community involvement and philanthropy.
Deloitte Fast 50
ParetoLogic's growth has been staggering. XoftSpySE Anti-Spyware was its first software product. ParetoLogic continues to be a top seller, with a line of more than 10 innovative programs, including PC Health Advisor, ParetoLogic Anti-Virus PLUS, ParetoLogic Data Recovery Pro, PGsurfer and RegCure Registry Cleaner. Revenues jumped from $3.9 million five years ago – with the company based in Pereira's basement – to $88.4 million last year. It is these types of numbers that grabbed the attention of the Deloitte Technology Fast 50.
"This honour is a symbol of how far we have come as a company," said Adrian Pereira, a co-founder and the company's Chief Technology Officer. "From just a staff of seven in 2005, we now have a team of 145 brilliant people with more than 7 million customers world-wide. The credit goes to my other co-founders, the management and staff, whose talents and dedication have made our vision for ParetoLogic come to fruition. Of course, we also need to thank our loyal customers for making it all possible."
To be considered for the Deloitte Technology Fast 50, a company must have been in business for five years, have at least $5 million in revenue, own proprietary technology and be headquartered in Canada and conduct research and development in that country. The judging panel looks at size, growth and market attractiveness; competitive advantage; management effectiveness and organization; and financial performance. Those Canadian companies that cracked the top 50 will be considered for the Deloitte Technology Fast 500, which ranks the top growing IT companies in Canada and the United States. Earlier this year ParetoLogic ranked 23rd on Profit Magazine's Profit 100, which ranks Canada's fastest growing businesses.
