Whether it was crawling through mud, flipping a huge tire up a hill, taking a pie in the face or buying a sweet treat, members of ParetoLogic contributed in various ways to raise more than $10,000 for the Power to Be charity.
ParetoLogic's donation was the largest made by companies in the recent Power to Be fundraising drive. Executive Director Tim Cormode said the Power to Play Corporate Challenge was the adventure therapy charity's best fundraising event yet because of the response by the business community.
"This year, ParetoLogic truly captured the spirit of Power to Be by leading the fundraising drive that not only garnered $10,027 in donations but involved its staff and community in every step. We're proud to partner with ParetoLogic's community leadership and look forward to seeing its donation enrich the lives of people in our community through outdoor education."
Power to Be provides outdoor adventure activities for young people and families with disabilities and life challenges. Through a variety of activities and events, participants are inspired and empowered as well as learning new skills, making friends and enjoying their time outdoors. Through Power to Be, about 650 families will experience something they likely would not have been able to otherwise.
"I am thrilled with how ParetoLogic embraced this cause and raised over $10,000," ParetoLogic CEO, Co-Founder and President Elton Pereira said. "Power to Be makes a huge impact in people's lives and I am pleased that our company was able to be a part of it and make a difference."
For about two months ParetoLogic held a number of in-house fundraisers for Power to Be. Perhaps the most memorable was a pie in the face contest for co-founders and managers. Staff members pledged money and whichever person had the most donations had a pie topped heavily with whip cream tossed into their mug. To avoid getting pied, co-founders and managers offered up various incentives for people to donate to their rivals. For example, Pereira jumped in the icy waters of the Victoria, B.C.'s Selkirk Waterfront to prompt pledges for others. That event alone raised more than $1,200.
Putting an exciting cap on the Power to Be fundraising drive was the Power to Play Corporate Challenge. Not even a cold, wet day could dampen the spirits of ParetoLogic's four participants or the other teams. For four hours, the teams, including three of ParetoLogic's co-founders, completed a number of challenges that pushed them to their limits. Team members worked together to flip a tire up a hill, pull a cargo trailer by hand and crawl through mud.
"Besides the challenges themselves, I think the thing that will stick with me as far as a long-term memory is the shared experience," ParetoLogic team member Rick Young said. "I'm sure that every team had their specific challenges that forced them to overcome personal barriers. To know that every team experienced the same thing was really powerful."
