With hard work and innovation, ParetoLogic has proven itself to be a survivor.
The PC optimization and security software company, based in Victoria, B.C., recently was recognized as one of the top technology companies in its area as it was named to the VIATeC 25. The list features the biggest Greater Victoria technology companies according to revenue.
"In what was a tough year economically worldwide, we at ParetoLogic are very pleased that we were able to be successful," said Don Wharton, ParetoLogic's Chief Operating Officer and Co-founder. "It is an honour to be recognized as one of the best companies in a very active Vancouver Island technology community."
The VIATeC 25 is announced annually by the Victoria Advanced Technology Council (VIATeC). KPMG, one of the largest professional services companies in the world, sponsors the prestigious list and helps gather and compile the data.
"All in all, we are pleased with what this year's survey demonstrates," VIATeC executive director Dan Gunn said in an official press release. "Revenues are just slightly lower than pre-recession numbers, the median average continues to climb and the cut off number to make the list is way up. No matter how you splice it, the numbers indicate exceptional growth combined with increased stability and strength for the thriving technology sector."
In 2009, the companies on the VIATeC 25 had an estimated median average revenue of $14.85 million. While total revenue numbers were down from $762 million in 2008 to $729 million, the 2,738 employees these companies have is an increase of 11 per cent from the last edition of the list. The revenue needed just to make the list has increased 225 per cent since the first VIATeC 25 was released in 2004.
Technology companies continue to be Greater Victoria's top revenue generating industry. Since 2007, when independent research showed tech companies generated $1.6 billion in revenue, this sector has even out-produced Victoria's vigorous tourism industry.
ParetoLogic certainly had a big year in 2009. It introduced the sophisticated device driver updater software, ParetoLogic DriverCure, as well as ParetoLogic FileCure, which helps open unknown file types and manage file extensions and associations. Plus, a number of ParetoLogic's premier software products, including RegCure Registry Cleaner, were updated to be compatible with Windows 7. The top-selling XoftSpySE Anti-Spyware 7.0 was given a bold new look, an improved scanning engine and exciting new features. ParetoLogic also earned such honours as being named the Business Examiner's Technology Company of the Year.
However, Wharton indicated the company does not plan to rest on its laurels:"As a company, we do not believe in being satisfied and we expect another successful year in 2010."
