Pereira tabbed as Entrepreneur of the Year Award finalist

Since four brothers founded ParetoLogic in 2006, Elton Pereira's enthusiasm, passion and vision have been key factors in the Canadian software company's success.

These qualities have helped the Victoria, B.C.-based co-founder, president and CEO earn the honour of being a regional finalist for the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. In the past, leaders of successful companies as Cirque du Soleil, Veritas (DGC) Inc., ATI Technologies Inc., and WestJet Airlines Ltd. have taken home the national award.

"Elton's enthusiasm has been a driving force during the entire history of ParetoLogic," said Adrian Pereira, Elton's brother, a ParetoLogic co-founder and the company's Chief Technology Officer. "It is great to see him and ParetoLogic be recognized."

Elton Pereira and ParetoLogic have achieved great success – including being named to the Profit 100 and Branham300 lists – thanks in part to establishing an innovative vision when the company formed. At the time, there was an absence on the computer marketplace of easy-to-use software that fixed the common problems faced by home users. ParetoLogic continues to address this with a variety of powerful yet intuitive security solutions, problem-focused utilities and optimization programs, such as ParetoLogic PC Health Advisor, RegCure Registry Cleaner and XoftSpySE Anti-Spyware.

"It is an absolute honour to be a finalist for this award," said Elton. "However, any personal success I have had is certainly tied to the talents, hard work and dedication of my brothers, other leaders and the entire ParetoLogic team. Together we have achieved great success."

The Ernst and Young award takes into account many aspects of the work life of the finalists and their companies. These include, but are not limited to revenues, growth, innovation, affect on their industry and company's culture. The judging panels also weigh the nominee's relationship with staff, integrity, and charity and community involvement.

ParetoLogic participates – as a company or with teams of individuals – in a wide variety of community and charitable efforts. These have included an ongoing dedication to World Vision and being a member of the Canadian Blood Services' Partners for Life program. As well, the company has participated for a number of years in such programs as the Salvation Army Angel Tree and Mustard Seed food bank Christmas food drives. During one memorable effort, Elton Pereira and 15 staff members had their heads shaved to raise funds for Cops for Cancer, a Canadian Cancer Society fundraising campaign for pediatric cancer resources and programs.

This is the 17th year of the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in Canada. Pereira is one of three finalists for the Pacific Region in the Information Technology category. The winners will be announced at a gala on Sept. 28 in Vancouver, with the overall winner representing the region at the national banquet in Toronto, Nov. 17.
