Security Community has New Online Resource to Track and Study Malware

ParetoLogic's Spyware Analysis Team opens URL Clearing House to security community and beyond.

Victoria, B.C. Feb. 12, 2010 - ParetoLogic's Spyware Analysis Team has officially launched their new URL Clearing House. The service provides a real-time resource of live malware samples for all those in the PC security fields.

"Computer security is a very communal industry," said Jerome Segura, SWAT's Team Lead. "There's a sense of working as one team, to overcome all kinds of exploits and scammers." By providing open access to their malware samples, ParetoLogic moves toward a co-operative approach to malware analysis and PC security.

The URL Clearing House is an ever expanding database of websites known to harbor malicious downloads, along with individual samples of malicious files. After logging in, users are able to track the date and locations of each threat submitted, and download them for further study and dissection.

Security researchers are not limited to just those in the software industry. Students, government officials, non-profit security organizations, banks, and a series of other groups have already used the URL Clearing House services.

Additionally, the URL Clearing House includes a feature for the average security-conscious computer user. The search function is available to all visitors, and allows them to confirm if a suspicious site is infected or not. "Eventually, it all comes back to the home user," said Segura, "we study malware to keep them safe, and this search tool will let them be more proactive in their security."

With every new sample found, tagged, and researched, SWAT is able to help improve ParetoLogic's anti-spyware software. Sharing their samples to the security world will enable others in the field guard against similar threats.

The ParetoLogic URL Clearing House can be reached at mdl.paretologic.com. To ensure safety and effective communication, the areas dealing with harmful sites and files are limited to registered PC security professionals only.
